Honouring Deb

If there is one thing we all know about Deb, is that her love and energy knew no bounds. Throughout her life, Deb channelled this into many wonderful, community-focused endeavours and we’d like to provide an opportunity for her family & friends to honour her legacy, by donating to or registering for some of the causes that Deb was most passionate about.

Deb's Legacy

The love and dedication Deb had to helping others during her lifetime was undeniable. Her compassion for all living creatures is, and will continue to be something we all cherish about her.

From family, friends and clients needing advice and support to injured animals in vulnerable circumstances, Deb put her energy into making sure all creatures had the best possible chance at life.

To honour her legacy, Deb’s family have chosen three organisations that Deb generously dedicated a lot of her life to supporting - Women’s Legal Service, Australian Wildlife Rescue Organisation (WIRES) and most recently, DonateLife Australia.

Women's Legal Service

Deb’s dedication to supporting the vulnerable and underprivileged inspired us and many of those around her. A 35 year career at the Women’s Legal Service office in Brisbane not only resulted in a number of cherished friendships, but ignited a lifelong commitment to justice for women similar to those she spent her career helping.

We would like to continue that commitment on behalf of Deb, and invite all those who are able to donate to the Queensland Women’s Legal Service below.

WIRES

Prior to her career in family law and, in her early adolescent years, Deb had great interest in pursuing veterinary studies. She had always believed that all species should be treated equally.

Having recently moved to Bangalow NSW, Deb was surrounded by native wildlife. In recent months, Deb was on a first name basis with the Northern NSW WIRES team, reporting any and all injured wildlife she came into contact with, including sick koalas that lived straight off the back verandah of the house and, most recently, a baby currawong bird that had been rejected by its parents.

Deb hand nursed this baby bird until help arrived and you can assist the WIRES team to continue this sort of work by donating to them via the below link.

DonateLife Australia

Deb was taken from her loved ones far too soon, but her generosity lives on as she continues to help those who need it - in this instance, via organ donation. Her legacy will live on as her family have recently learned that she has already saved a life with the successful transplant of a kidney.

Organ, eye and tissue donation saves lives, restores health and improves the quality of life for thousands of Australians each year, but sadly, only 2% of people who pass away in hospital each year can be considered for organ donation.

One organ donor can save the lives of up to 7 people and help many more through eye and tissue donation, which is why Deb’s family would like to encourage their friends and community to consider contributing to or registering themselves on the organ donation registry.
